Princeton Alumni Win Three of the Four 2026 Fields Medals
Princeton University alumni have received three of the four 2026 Fields Medals announced by the International Mathematical Union (IMU).
According to the Princeton University Office of Communications, Yu Deng (Ph.D. ’15), John Pardon (A.B. ’11), who is also a former faculty member in the Department of Mathematics, and Jacob Zimmerman (Ph.D. ’11) are three of the four mathematicians awarded the Fields Medal this year.
Awarded every four years to mathematicians under the age of 40, the Fields Medal is one of the most prestigious honors in mathematics. In its announcement of the 2026 Fields Medalists, the International Mathematical Union stated that the award recognizes both “outstanding mathematical achievements in existing work” and “the promise of future achievement.”
Christopher Skinner, Professor of Mathematics and Chair of the Department of Mathematics at Princeton, extended his warmest congratulations to all the 2026 Fields Medalists. He said, “The awarding of the Fields Medal is a fitting occasion to celebrate great mathematical achievements.”
